The journey began for founder Phil Bianchi when well over twenty years ago he fell in love with the Mediterranean way of life whilst working for an olive oil company based in Athens.

He realised very quickly on his travels that the olive oils and balsamics available back then in the UK were massively inferior to those he had discovered in Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal and France.

This was to lead in fairly short order to the creation of The Gift of Oil and as they say…..the rest is history!

Today our exceptional range of artisan oils and balsamics deliver incredible flavours and bring customers both old and new, back to us again and again. An experience like no other, you just need to taste to believe and you too will fall in love with flavour.

Our products are created in Sicily, Modena and Portugal. When there in partnership with our various family producers we innovate and experiment with new ideas and infusions always ensuring the provenance of our products is the best that can be.

Each year the single estate olive oils we sell are painstakingly blended. New oil and balsamic infusions are developed, evaluated and continually improved upon in a process which can take several years before finally attaining perfection and being brought to market right here in the UK

The Di Lorenzo Family

In Sicily our partners are the Di Lorenzo Family who own the magnificent disisa estate set in a majestic landscape in the hills of north western Sicily.

The estate has been in the hands of the Di Lorenzo family for well over a hundred years and is today run by Renato Di Lorenzo and his wife Maria Paola, ably assisted by their two children Mario and Laura.

The word Disisa is derived from the Arabic for “splendid” and it is obvious why the land was so named! The farmhouse itself is built around a beautiful, traditional courtyard and has a terrace with a stunning view rolling for mile after mile into the very heart of the island’s rugged mountains. It is with this view that we enjoy Maria Paola’s traditional Italian meals in the evenings, usually with a glass or two of Disisa wine!

Dating back to Norman times, this ancient farm covers 400 hectares of olive groves, vineyards for the production of wine and wine vinegars, along with orchards and herb gardens to grow the many different ingredients such as lemons, mint and basil used in our infused olive oils.

It is a magical place with a warm and welcoming family who create truly superb olive oil and wine vinegar.

The Verrini Family

One of the families we work with to create our balsamic vinegar collection are the Verrini's, who have a beautifully tranquil easte in the countryside to the north of the city.

There the Trebbiano and Lambrusco grapes used to make the balsamics are grown, crushed, and then matured in ancient oak barrels.

The main man in the family business is Nicolo Verrini who, for such a young man, has a vast amount of knowledge about grapes and creating balsamic vinegar. His expertise is both practical and theoretical; he has been working on the estate since he was an infant at the feet of his grandfather and later his father, and has gone on to study Viticulture and Oenology (the science of grape growing and wine making) at the University of Bologna.

Nicolo has been invaluable in helping us to create our Classic and Reserve ranges of balsamic and our delicious and unique infusions are the result of many hours spent creating with him in the estates’ tasting rooms.
